Jenny's MFA Thesis Album tells the stories of the ecologically and culturally rich village of Makanda, located in rural Southern Illinois. This album debuted on an overflowing Makanda boardwalk with all the electric excitement of a community re-energized to hear their stories.
As more young people leave rural areas for economic opportunity, people still remain within these regions living vibrant lives. These subcultures exist with stories inextricably linked to their environment and relationships to each other. Rural womanhood, economic labor shifts, dry town laws, natural disasters, and the impending solar eclipse phenomenon are just a few of the stories passed on through this shoe shuffling Americana album. Crossing over several genres, this album hosts a diverse and plentiful amount of musicians.
